last day to vote for me…

so, i really hate pleading with all my friends to vote for me, but for some reason i really think that i could make it with this photo. in flickr, 112 people call this photo a favourite… i am almost close to that on jpg… not really. but today is the last day for voting.

i am dying to get published in the jpg magazine. tee-hee-hee, my photo in print.

tee hee-hee. i am having fun.
this urban acid action is really great- i love that it will do to different shots, and i am having fun messing around with the settings now as well.
this is a great one of krispy, i think. … wordpress code won’t allow me to show you what it is called. you’ll just have to check out my flickr account!!

say “cheese”, new photo and new look

cheese

… i went out today to, among other things, take photos. for some reason things did not work out… i can’t blame the rain. i’ll just have to go out again soon :)
so, in the absence of good photos from today, i started playing around with some old ones. i absolutely love this one of kaylah from last summer. her cheesy little smile makes me giggle. *sigh* would love to get back to montreal soon and take pics of little jayden.

and… i have been playing around with the theme of my blog… what do you think? the original theme is 3k2 redux-klee by headsetoptions. i still love the theme, but i needed a change in the header. i originally edited this image to submit it for a new header image for the beyond rosbon blog, but i really liked it so i thought i could use it on my own blag as well. i love the fact that you can edit all the files of word press themes… now i think i may update it more often.

time to get yer talk on, vancouver!

ever walked through the streets of our fair city and thought, “why do i feel so alone?”. i have.

in 2000, i moved to montreal by myself. with the exception of a friends’ older brother who lived on the other side of the city, i did not know a soul. immediately i was shocked at how many people were interested in striking up a conversation in the city, and i am not talking about people whose job it is to be friendly because van city wins that category, hands down. anywhere i went (cafe, bar, restaurant, book store, etc) people were ready to chat, invite me to their table to join a game of chess, ask me questions about myself, etc. and this was not a fake, temporary kindness. if i returned to an establishment a second time, i was greeted as if i had become a friend.

i never thought that vancouver was a cold city (and seriously, i do not believe it is now), but upon my return from montreal, i noticed that there is a strange aloofness to the social scene here. its almost as if people do not want to be so rude as to impose friendship on another person… as if speaking to someone that you do not know is somehow inappropriate.

oksocial vancouver

some ingenious local graphic designer decided to change this vancouver epidemic and decided to create buttons that people could wear: these buttons would signify to other vancouverites that the wearer is “not only great to talk to, but you like the idea of a warmer and more open city”.

hmmmm. i think i’ll have to get a couple.
Want to help?

1) Wear a button. Get one at info@oksocial.org
2) Give out a bunch of buttons to your friends to wear. Request a bunch of buttons… they’ll give them to you. It’s free.
3) Visit their MySpace profile and be a friend.
4) Download this simple printable poster and post it somewhere.
5) Send us your suggestions. info@oksocial.org
6) Blog about oksocial! This really helps to spread the word.
7) Steward OK in your city, school, neighbourhood, etc. Ask oksocial how…

1st official hot chili sunday chili cookoff contest

… and what a night it was. man, those men can cook! there were three scrumptious entries:

- the carnivore: created by (most of) the edmonds house guys
- the all-nighter: created and slow-cooked by steven smethurst

i think there was a tie for first place but edmonds house won on a… technicality? congrats to all you doods- you made all of our colons a little cleaner.
