Good weather

It seems that I’ve been blogging about the weather a lot lately… But for good reason. This winter has been typically non-typical for Vancouver weather. We’ve had snow, fog, sun, and sleet. We still have snow, mixed with beautiful warm afternoons where my fellow students and I must free ourselves from the grips of winter coats, scarves, mittens and toques lest we arrive to class drenched in sweat. Days where the sky is so clear and bright, you feel that the wind might just be able to sweep you up, carry you across the bay and plant you atop Cypress Bowl.
Glorious.

It is for that reason I had to stop and snap this photo thursday night.

Word is spreading

YAY! my notankers decals arrived today! I was so stoked that I went out to buy an americano and got all loonies for change. As I sat down to drink the lovely, life-giving liquid, I stuck the decals on my loonies and plotted my plan.
Next stop, the corner store where I paid for my gum with the newly defaced coins. One lady’s silent protest began.
Feeling all happy and connected to my provinces’ plight, I walked over to Main st to meet up with Lindsay Joy. On my way, I picked up a Georgia Straight and was SUPER surprised to see that on the cover (as well as page 17), the disparaging story of the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline was being told for Vancouverites to read!!

I hope that more people get involved in the protest. We do not need a natural disaster caused by the dirty oil sands by products & tankers in B.C.

Oh yeah, the Canadian Mint has given the Dogwood Initiative  cease and desist order. You can read the whole letter here.

The great minds at the Dogwood Initiative have come up with yet another awesome campaign to raise environmental awareness in Canada. This one is an effort to protect BC’s coast from oil spills and basically is a protest against the creation of a pipeline that would bring oil from the tar sands through BC to Kitimat where it would be transferred to the tankers.

They have created awesome little protest decals that you can put on your loonies to transform them into what an environment looks like after a spill. Please check out the campaign and have fun with their interactive map that tracks these modified toonie sightings across Canada.
