SWAN grew out of a pilot community health care initiative that extended HIV/AIDS outreach to local massage parlours. During the project, they recognized concerns that were most important to women in massage parlours were issues related to the law, immigration, employment and safety among others.

Since 2002 SWAN has worked to promote the rights, health & safety of immigrant and migrant women engaged in sex work, through front-line service and systemic advocacy. They did so with a small but mighty team passionate folks who managed everything from front line work to website design and everything between.

When SWAN came to me they had a logo and website that was designed in house and served them well for a time but the organization’s work and vision had grown tremendously in the last few years.

As such their visual brand identity and website in no way supported the organization’s current vision nor accurately reflected their capacity.

They needed a brand strategy and website that would reflect not only the capacity of the organization but also provide a micro-site to share their amazing library of resources for media and other stakeholders.

SWAN brand guidelines designed by JamieLeigh.com

We began with thorough research and brand discovery. The organization had created a lot of material over their past 20 years and there was so much discover, research, and document about their brand audience, goals, ethos, and market differentiators. I then mapped out a solid brand strategy that the entire team felt represented the organization.

Finally I designed all their brand assets including a diverse logo suite, colours, and typography. I documented all of this in a 35 page Brand Guidelines document so that everyone who represents, works with, and creates content for the brand will understand its guidelines, components, and the ways in which to get the best results from it.

With brand strategy in place, it was time to bring SWAN’s new visual identity to life online.

We wanted the website to be professional and credible while still nodding to the organization’s grassroots beginnings. I kept the mantra “Small but Mighty” in mind when I created this engaging, clear, and dynamic user experience in a custom WordPress child theme including mobile-first design, user-friendly mega menu navigation, industry-standard plugins, and security best practices.

Custom social media templates that I designed for SWAN Vancouver

The resulting brand strategy and website create a professional, accessible, and unique experience that positions SWAN Vancouver as a leader and the go-to for information in their industry.

The website also makes it easy for SWAN Vancouver’s key stakeholders to learn about the organization, take action to support them, and access valuable resources.

“Your ability to roll with and incorporate the feedback with such professionalism is so great. Also, you made the process fun. We have already received such positive feedback about the website.

Our Giving Tuesday fundraising campaign increased our fundraising effort by almost $4000 now that we have a reputable website.”
